Schitt’s Creek review

Schitt’s Creek review

After putting it off for months, I finally got around to watching Schitt’s Creek and I can definitely see why it won so many Emmys.

I binged all 6 seasons in about 2 weeks and thoroughly enjoyed every episode.

I laughed, I cried, and by the end of it, I felt as if John, Moira, David, and Alexis were part of my own family.

Schitt’s Creek follows the Rose family who have to move out of their extravagant mansion after their accountant embezzles all their money, leaving them penniless.

One of the only assets that the government allows them to keep is the town of Schitt’s Creek, which John (Eugene Levy) had bought as a joke for his son David (Dan Levy).

While the family initially finds the town repulsive and the rundown motel that they live in for free dumpy, they grow fond of the titular town and its quirky town folk.

I didn’t expect to get so invested in the lives of the characters of a goofy 30-min sitcom, but you can’t help but find yourself rooting for the Rose family’s successes and mourning their losses along with them.

The show also does an excellent job of portraying LGBTQ characters in a real, grounded, and authentic way, it’s not hard to see why the LGBTQ community has so thoroughly embraced the show.

If you’re like me and put off watching Schitt’s Creek, now is the perfect time to start watching the Emmy-winning series. All 6 seasons of the CBC/Pop original series are now streaming on Netflix.
