Netflix's The Witcher and why you should watch it

Written by Charly

Are you looking for a bizarre dark fantasy world filled with monster hunters, powerful sorceresses, iconic bards, and destiny itself? Then you should definitely check out Netflix's The Witcher.

Based off the book series by Andrzej Sapkowski which also inspired the 3 witcher video games, Netflix bring this world to the small screen and we couldn't be happier.

Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) is a mutant monster hunter, a profession which goes by the title of the show. We travel with Geralt and eventually his best friend (though Geralt would never admit it), Jaskier, the comedic bard who is portrayed by Joey Batey. These two characters have a great dynamic that leaves you highly entertained throughout their scenes.

However, Geralt is not the only main character who we follow in a sometimes confusing time scale, which tells the story of 3 characters who's destinies are intertwined.

Yennefer of Vengerburg (Anya Chalotra) is a powerful and determined sorceress who came from a neglectful background but eventually rose and became a force of nature. We see her story intersect with Geralt's over halfway through and the chemistry is undeniable from their very first scene.

Ciri of Cintra (Freya Allan) is a young royal princess who has to flee her home which is destroyed by another regions army, but that's not all. The same people are also specifically after Ciri! Now this young girl must survive on the run and come to terms with what her destiny could be.

These three characters are seemingly all linked by destiny and will play a very important role to each other as their paths continuously cross throughout this epic tale.

The storylines in the first season are, in our opinion, more to set up the lore and characters than fully delving into too much driven plot, which will probably be season 2's domain.

Nevertheless, the first season was an incredible and intriguing one. From epic sword fights, monsters, magic, dragons, romance, destiny to amazingly catchy songs that got stuck in our heads for weeks after. This show has it all and we definitely recommend watching sometime soon before the second season of the Witcher drops!
